4th grade - Krystal Tucker

Welcome to Our Class!

RESPECT letters pinned to cork board, blue text at bottom says, Respect for ourselves guides our morals, respect for others guides our manners.

Welcome to our fourth grade class! I look forward to a fun year of learning!

During our fourth quarter, we will begin reading our whole class novel, Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls.  While studying this novel, we will learn about various literary elements, enrich our vocabulary, and apply grammar rules to our writing responses. To increase fluency and individual reading levels, students are expected to read 20 minutes each night.

In Virginia History, we will learn about the regions, animals, and habitats of Natural Virginia. In Virginia History, we will continue learning about the American Revolution and the Civil War. We will also learn about World War I, the Roaring Twenties, the Great Depression, and World War II.

During our Science instruction for this quarter, we will learn about the states of matter (solid, liquid, and gas). We will continue to study Unit E: Matter and Energy as outlined in the Science textbook.

In Language Arts, our studies the fourth quarter will focus on commas, as well as continuing to advance our writing skills and improve our cursive handwriting. Our Wordly Wise lessons help to improve vocabulary knowledge and increase students’ comprehension, as well as create more descriptive writing. Spelling and Vocabulary assignments will continue to alternate weekly. Please refer to the Spelling/Vocabulary schedule for additional information.

During the fourth quarter, our Math instruction will focus on understanding decimals and learning about area and perimeter. Please continue to review multiplication facts nightly for extra practice.
